Chakrasamvara also known as Samvara, is also a Tantric deity of the Supreme Yoga Tantra or Vajrayana. Here Chakrasamvara is depicted with 12 arms embracing his consort Vajravarahi. Chakrasamvara symbolizes emptiness and bliss. Samvara wears a tiger skin around his waist and an elephant skin across the back. Chakrasamvara wears bone ornaments, a tiara of 5 skulls and a garland of 51 severed human heads. Chakrasamvara bears the effigy of Akshobhya on his crown. In his hands he holds a vajra and a bell, a skull cup, a snare, head of Brahma, a tantric staff, an elephant knife, a flaying knife, a trident and a damru (small hand drum). Chakrasamvara stands trampling the Hindu god Bhairava and Kalaratri. Chakrasamvara appears terrible with his face slightly distorted and bare fangs. Samvara's consort Vajravarahi carries a skull cup and a curved knife.
The parental Dhyani Buddha of Samvara is Akshobhya while that of his consort Vajravarahi is Vairochana. Samvara is a very popular tantric deity in Tibet. Sambhara or Samvara means supreme bliss and is the representation of the entire system of meditation, yogic practices and other kinds of spiritual exercise. This guides the path towards inner bliss. The nature of this deity is explained in the Srichakrasamvara Tantra and in other unabridged explanatory works of literature.
